I talked to the warden at the local prison. The warden said the mental ward was the worst part of the prison. But, if he is convicted and gets prison time, he will most likely have his own bed at least. I forgot to ask about personal toilets & sinks. They shower at a central location where they are watched. Only the worst suicidal/homicidal mental cases are cut off from having TV, magazines and the like. Wish I could give you comfort, but we are all swimming with open wounds.

I'm so sorry about your brother living like this. What a mess. My Mother while in the state mental hospital had people steal her clothes and also got overdosed on medications. My brother (her guardian) would intervene as much as he could. I know her case and your brother's case DISPROVE THE LIE that all these people are sitting around watching a TV all day. It's the easy way out to believe that in EVERY case. I can't believe they have 1 psychiatrist for 5 prisons??!! God help us! What a sick mess. If you don't mind my asking, are you your brother's guardian? I'm sorry you're going through this, and for what your brother is, too. Please keep us updated and take care.

No, I am not my brother's guardian...my mother is. But as she is in her late 70's, I imagine that burden will shift to me eventually. Hopefully, it won't be any time soon.

I can understand your feelings about the guardianship to a degree. My brother who was my Mom's guardian went through a lot more than the rest of us did in that 1 area. Take care.
