I'm wondering if anyone here would know how the family of a murder victim would go about having the cause of death challenged, over-ruled, or over-turned. If despite many signs of foul play, the death was ruled as accidental instead of homicide. If no physical evidence was saved for any possible future investigation because the investigators would not investigate the death as a homicide?

Parents of Murdered Children might be able to give you info. There's a link to them on here. I hope this info might help you. Take care.
