Hi,
I am new here. My story is my uncle walked into our house, murdered my 14 year old sister, and drove away.
It happened a year before I was born and I am still trying to get all the facts on what happened. I have newspaper accounts but I'm having a difficult time finding police records even tho the City, County and State police were all involved -- and it all happened half a century ago.
It took 30 years for anyone in the family to start putting flowers on my uncle's grave at Memorial Day even tho he is buried next to grandma and grandpa.
Never knew until now there are so many other people out there where both the victim and the "committee" (just learned that term from the Sheriff and haven't had a chance to use it yet) are relatives.
Thanks for being here.

Hi:
I'm so glad that you found this board! It has been a life line for me at times. There are several people on this board where both the victim and the "committee" (I have never heard this term before!) are relatives. I think that's what makes this board so special.
I'm so sorry about what happened to your sister. Was your uncle mentally ill? It seems that many murders that happen between family members have mental illness involved. In my case, my brother, who is paranoid schizophrenic, shot and killed my father (who was trying to help my brother.)
I hope you can find more of the facts that you are looking for. If you don't mind me asking, what have you found out so far?

Dear August261955, I'm very sorry about your Sister. Inter-family murders make up 22% of all murders in the US according to the US Department of Justice statistics. And the % of victims who KNEW their perpetrator in SOME way is over 40%. Before it happened to my family, I always thought all cases were stranger murder. Another thing that STILL troubles me is I used to go to an in-person support group for MVS in a major city and not 1 person there had an inter-family case. Considering the % of cases, this doesn't "add up". I think a big possible reason for this is that many in society don't want to hear about these kind of cases and/or believe unfair stereotypes and that affects the MVS. This specific board is the 1st place I "met" other inter-family MVS and I thank God for it. It's been a tremendous help for me and others. If you don't mind my asking, did you Uncle do any time for this? Did he go to trial? Again, welcome to the board and know that we're here for you. Take care.
