cdcrtoday.blogspot.com/2011/08/cdcr-and-facebook-security-will.htmlFacebook agrees to remove accounts managed by or on behalf of state inmates Link to photos: www.flickr.com/photos/37381942@N04/SACRAMENTO- The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today announced it has begun reporting Facebook accounts set up and monitored by prison inmates to the Facebook Security Department. Facebook accounts set up and/or monitored on behalf of an inmate will be removed, as it is a violation of Facebook’s user policies. “Access to social media allows inmates to circumvent our monitoring process and continue to engage in criminal activity,” CDCR Secretary Matthew Cate said. “This new cooperation between law enforcement and Facebook will help protect the community and potentially avoid future victims.” I hope this will happen in all states, not just for California - especially considering the continuing problems with inmates getting cell phones. I'll be trying to find out more, and anyone who does find out more - please let us know here.

When will this take in effect? It angers me to see that my sisters murderer has his facebook page up & his family is updating it. I find it cruel and heartless, especially since he stated on his page that he was going to kill my sister & the post is still on there. I have tried contacting facebook with no success.

it is an outrage that inmates could even have access to computers and especially that they could have facebook accounts and monitor accounts of victims and their families. I recently heard that inmates can stalk victims through a computer or text messaging while in prison. What really outrages me the most is that criminals are given all sorts of rights, services, and ammenities. They are being rewarded for their crimes. They do not pay for their crimes, rights, services and ammenities. The innocent victims and tax payers are the ones who pay. Murder Victims, like my husband and your daughter, pay the highest price of all, they pay with their life. In the state of North Carolina, we have the Victim's Rights Act, but it is as worthless as the paper it was printed on because it is not enforceable by law. There is no punishment for denying Victims rights and compassion we deserve. I am one of those Victims further Victimized by the system and denied rights, like the right to be informed. Not only did they not inform me about indictments and bond hearings, but they also lied on numerous occasions. They entered my home and car repeatedly and illegally. In other words, Victims in the State of North Carolina have no rights. The state and nation continues to spend more and more on rights, services and ammenities for criminals. They are rewarding criminals. No wonder we have so much crime and so many repeat offenders. Crime pays!! We are overdue for our states and national government to start punishing the criminals, taking away their rights, services and ammenities and start giving back to the Victims, tax payers and citizens. They won't because crime pays and there is not enough money in it for them to give rights to the Victims that are absolutely enforceable by law. I guess it will take our legislatures having to go through what I have been through for them to make the changes that we so desperately need and deserve. No one deserves this. We do deserve changes that will help and protect Victims and punish the criminals.
