In August of 2011, my best friend was murdered by his partner of 12 years. His partner, Louis Chen, also killed their two year old son. This happened in Seatlle, WA in the First Hill Apartments if you wish to google news articles for more information. Some details are hard for me to discuss. I'm not sure what I want to say right now but I am having such a hard time dealing with this. Eric would have turned 30 on the first of this month. We were best friends since he was 14. I know the justice system is a long, slow process but I just need so badly to know that Chen will spend the rest of his life behind bars. He was a doctor but lost his license after being charged with both murders. He always thought nothing was ever good enough for him so it will be a good punishment for him to have to share a cell for the rest of his life. I will also mention that they were going through a break up at the time. Chen was controlling and Eric was not allowed to do much. He spent his last years following Chen around the country as he finished his medical internship and then went for specialization. Eric also spent the last couple years caring for his only child, Cooper. Eric truly loved and adored Cooper more than anything. I try to think that now they are in a better place and together but it doesn't help much. They should be here, living their lives.

Dear megamel99, you can do parole protest petitions to at least try to keep Chen in prison longer. To me it's an outrage these petitions are even NEEDED ( ), but they can and do work. There's a link to Parents of Murdered Children on here and they can help you set 1 up plus put it on their website. They also put petition info in the newsletters for the individual chapters of POMC. Other message boards are a way of putting the info out there also and it's 1 reason I'm on other boards besides this 1. I hope Chen is never free again also and hope this info will help you. Take care.

Thanks, Pumpkin. We haven't even gotten to the actual trial yet. He did plead guilty. In Washington, the only punishments he can receive for the charges is either the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. The DA took the death penalty off the table, so now we just hope for him to be found guilty and spend the rest of his life in prison. Frankly, I would rather he got life than the death penalty. I think he will suffer more if he dies of old age in prison.

I am so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately I understand all too well how you feel. Beth's killer just pled guilty after going through 4 years of appeals on the admissibilty of his confession. With the plea prosecution recommended 40 years. In our state that means 34 (85%) less the 4 years he already served. Hardly seems enough for what he took away from so many but in my heart I know his life is over. After 30 more years in a cage he will have no one & nothing....if he even makes it out. The loss never gets easy but you will get stronger
