Hello Everyone. Well, I have a situation and I am at a loss. When my son and husband were murdered in 2008, my son Ty was also shot. He was shot in the left butt. His left hip was blown-out. He has a metal plate where his hip was and two rods that connect to the plate. This enables him to walk. Because the main nerve was destroyed, he has to wear a plastic brace on his left foot and leg. If he doesn't wear the brace, his foot will begin to turn under. He has no feeling in his left foot. About a year ago, he stepped on a tack, he didn't know it was in his foot, he has no feeling. He went to his doctor, she started him on antibiotics. He eventually was hospitalized due to infection. The ortho surgeons were thinking about amputating his foot. He still has good circulation in his foot, just can't feel. So, he still has his foot. Now, he was on AHCCCS, our states medical insurance. They won't pay for the treatment that he needs. He is in constant pain, takes percocets everyday. He needs a new brace, insurance won't pay for it. The shoe he has to wear now cost appx $150.00, for one shoe. My family was torn apart by three hispanic teens, for no reason. There have been no arrests, sand there is more evidence than is normally needed to make an arrests. I no longer know what to do, who to turn to for help, who to trust or believe. Today, Ty called me, during our conversation he told me there are many days when he wants it all to end. Life to end. I am no longer able to help myself, how am I supposed to help my son? Can anyone give me any suggestions? Something that is doable, within reach. I no longer know.

Dear dblvictim, I'm very sorry your son is going through this. Have you applied for Medicaid? You mention state insurance but I'm not familiar with that kind so don't know if it's a Medicaid HMO. If there's any Shriners hospitals in your area they may be able to help. There's what are called "county health" systems that are run by the county where the patient pays only what they can afford. They can be found looking under "clinics" and "hospitals" online and off and/or the local Department of Human Services should have info. Have you thought of getting a lawyer to fight the insurance company on this? Some lawyers will consult with you for free and then take the case on "contingency" (which means they take a portion of your winnings in civil court, etc. so you don't have any costs until the case has a verdict or is settled on without trial). Victims Assistance might be able to help. Their info can be found under state and/or county government listings. I hope this info might help you and I wish you the best. Take care.

Is your son on SSI, with medicare? If not I'd I'd go for that, and when okd for medicare buy a supplement during open enrollment time. Does your county offer any advocate service, many counties have one social worker who does mental health clients, and they often know what ropes need to get pulled to qualify for help. Sorry for what your going thru, i wish/hope for a public option health care like Canada has...Some states attorney offices know of viuctim services (most dont do much sad to say but worth the try)as for no arrests, that sad to say happens way too often, might be the norm. I had daughter shot who lived and thanful back to work & cops never investigated. then year after that her 15 yr old shot/murdered but was an arrest, that trial starts soon.

Dear oldgpa, I'm very sorry your daughter was shot. I'm also very glad she lived! I'm very sorry about the 15 yr old. I'm glad you found this board and hope you find some comfort here. Take care.
