I found this site yesterday while trying to finish my letter to the parole board. Many people have mixed feelings on whether or not my mothers murderer has served his time. Here's the story the best I know: On July 27, 1985 Heath changed my life forever. He was accompanied by one other. Marjorie, which was Heaths girlfriend, and Ray stayed behind. Patrick accompanied Heath and hid in the bathroom while my mother made Heath a sandwich. When he asked for extra lettuce and turned her back to get it, Patrick emerged and Heath pulled a knife. Heath stabbed my mother in her back, neck and heart but when she continued to beg for her life he stabbed her four times in her throat. It has been 28 years since that day but it still feels so very fresh to me. I was not quite 4 years old so I really do not have any happy memories with her. My dad refused to talk about her and any memories of her faded away. Now in 6 days he has another parole hearing and I am going to attend. I went last year and he stared me down so I am very thankful for my husband to be with me. It's difficult to explain to people why I feel the way that I do becausse they really do not have any idea unless they have been through it.
Thanks for reading.

Hello kjaa, I am so sorry your mother was taken from you, and all those memories that you should have been able to make together throughout your childhood and growing years. I don't believe there is anything a murderer could do to atone for that, no matter how long he was in prison. Isn't it strange how so many terrible things can happen to us that we can forget about over time. But the murders of our loved ones will never be like that. Even if we can walk through each day better after a time, it will always always always hurt. Sometimes I will think "I am okay, maybe it's healing" for a while- then something will trigger, and I'll be right back there. I would imagine that the parole hearings are like that for you. I'm so glad your husband is supportive; I can remember a "stare-down" when our first trial began. That was very overwhelming for me. If we can send parole protest letters that could be emailed to the parole board, or if there is a petition somewhere that we could add our names to, please let us know the information. Some of us would be very glad to help with that if you wish. Let us know if there is some way we can help from here. Blessings, Janet

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am still very new to all of this. I have no idea how to make a petition. The parole hearing is on Thursday the 15th. If that is enough time to write a letter than I will be more than thankful to give the information needed to write one. Only one other person other than myself attends his parole hearings, which is one of my aunts. Everyone else has "given up" except my sister. But, she petitioned for his release and that really scares me. His name is Heath Wilkins number 00099947. There are two different addresses. The one on the letter head I get about the parole is: State of Missouri Department of Corrections 2729 Plaza Drive P.O. Box 236 Jefferson City, MO 65102. The prison is: Jefferson City Correctional Center at 8200 No More Victims Rd. Jefferson City, MO 65101.

Dear kjaa002, here's a link for the wonderful group Parents of Murdered Children on how to write a petition, etc.: www.pomc.com/pbp.html. I hope this info helps you. Also please check the "parole protests" section on here for guidance. Take care.
