One of the most important things that we, as survivors, must do is prepare a victim's impact statement. Preparing one is tough because there are SO many emotions and thoughts whirling around in our heads that is becomes a major challenge to sort out and organize the most important points in order to make an effective statement.
Several of us have lately mentioned that they will soon need to prepare their own impact statements, and have expressed concern about doing so.
I encourage everyone to click on the "Victim's Impact Statement" link at the top of this page (right underneath the link to "Home"). There you will find examples of actual impact statements that should put you on the right track.
Then, whether your statement is to be given in court, or mailed to the judge, why not post what you have composed here, asking for feedback from others who have been through this before? You might get some really good suggestions -- or advice -- BEFORE you actually address the court or mail it off.
Best of luck to all.

Clarissa, Thank you for your advice. I will try to post what I have written so far and I would love comments and pointers. Please watch for it and help me out. My statemet won't affect sentencing. My sister's murderer is going to get life without parole. Unless they get another delay, sentencing will be July 14.
Take care.

Clarissa, I am afraid to put my Victims Impact Statement on here. What if the murderers family sees it? I don't want that. I would like your opinion though. Am I paranoid? If you think it is safe, I'll post it. I'm not sure why I don't want them to see it, they will hear it in court. Thanks

Great Idea!! I know you, Clarissa, and others here read over my rough draft. The input helped me balance my statement considerably. Balancing the beauty of who my brother was with the heinous atrocities the murdering beast inflicted on him. I've sent you an email message that tells you where & how to post your Victim's Impact Statement so that you can still get the necessary feedback. Let me know if you have any questions
